The Rosa Baccara Growing Instructions

Rosa Baccara
As the House builds its linings from luxury velvet, the velvet is inspired by the House’s botanical Rosa Baccara garden seed, a rose that is crafted with a pervasive velvet texture.

Rosa Baccara Origin
Bred by French rose hybridizer, Jacques Mouchotte, before 2000.

Rosa Baccara Color
The House's Rosa Baccara embodies a deep crimson color, with black tones surfacing on the edges of the petals.

The Rose Seed
- The rose seedlings have a tough outer coat that needs to be scarified (scratched or slightly damaged) to allow moisture to penetrate and initiate germination.
- You can achieve this by gently creating a nick on the seedlings coat.
- Be careful not to damage the inner seed.
- Rose seedlings require a period of cold stratification to break dormancy.
- Place the scarified seeds in a damp towel with some damp vermiculite.
- Place the scarified seeds in the refrigerator for 8 to 12 weeks. This will imitate the natural process of the seeds experiencing winter.
- After the stratification period, prepare your seed tray or small pots with well-draining seed starting soil.
- Plant the scarified seeds about 1/4" inch deep in the soil and cover them lightly with more soil.
- Mist the soil lightly with water to keep it evenly moist but not soggy.
- Cover your seed tray or pots with a clear wrap or dome to create a humid environment. This helps retain moisture and warmth, which can aid germination.
- Place your covered seed tray or pots in a warm location with indirect light.
- A temperature around 70-75°F (21-24°C) is ideal for germination.
- Keep an eye on the seeds for signs of germination, which may take several weeks to a few months.
- Once you see sprouts emerging, remove the clear cover and continue to provide adequate moisture and light exposure.
- As the seedlings grow, continue to provide them with bright, indirect light.
- If natural light is insufficient, you can use grow lights to ensure they receive the right amount of light for healthy growth.
- Once the seedlings have developed several sets of leaves and are sturdy enough, you can transplant them into larger pots with regular potting soil.
- Before transplanting your rose seedlings outdoors, they need to be acclimated to outdoor conditions through a process called "hardening off."
- Gradually expose your rose seedlings to outdoor conditions over the course of a week before planting them in their final location.
